I used the primer for the first time on a day when I had a photoshoot, and I will say my foundation lasted even after 4 hours under the hot lights on set. This product contains cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone as the second and third largest ingredients (two forms of silicone which, if you read my Skincare Simplified piece, you’ll know I’m not overly fond of). This may not be the most breathable choice for your skin, however the silicone will provide a smoothing finish which is great for photos. Overall, I was impressed by the lasting power of the primer and how well my makeup stayed throughout the shoot, I just wish the smoothing effect could be achieved with a more natural ingredient option.
Oh, do I ever love the texture of this concealer. I find that this cover-up does not look too heavy like other products I’ve tried and it actually leaves your skin looking like... skin. I would say this concealer can go anywhere from sheer to full coverage depending on how much you layer, which is amazing considering there are days when I need different levels of coverage for different parts of my face. If they have a colour that fits you (as unfortunately their shade range consists of only six colours right now), I would definitely recommend this product.
The next two products, although sold separately, I would highly recommend trying together. The Bamboo Eyeliner Brush and Natural & Organic Cream Gel Eyeliner are a serious superhero and sidekick duo. I am not one for using gel eyeliners and I’ve never found a brush thin enough for the type of eyeliner I like… but I think I just found my new favourite. This brush is super thin and dense enough that you can create any type of eyeliner look with ease. The liner itself has an amazing creamy texture which eliminates skipping. Overall, I love this duo and would recommend this to anyone looking for a great gel liner and/or liner brush.
The only product that wasn’t quite what I was expecting was the Natural & Organic Coffee Mascara. The formula is almost gel like, which created a lovely natural coat of mascara, except for someone like me who prefers a little more drama to my lashes, it wasn’t the ideal product. It did separate the lashes nicely and was a very dark black, but I just couldn’t get the length I wanted from the mascara. If you’re looking for an amazing natural mascara definitely give this one a try, but if you want a little more va-va-voom for your lashes, this probably isn’t for you.
I’ve recently become obsessed with gloss textures so this product excited me—and it did not disappoint. First of all, the colour (‘Val’) is an amazing warm pinky nude which I believe would look good on most skin tones, but if that’s not your style they have six other colours for you to try. The gloss is more pigmented than most, so it is almost a bridge between a liquid lipstick and a gloss. The formula is not sticky at all so for all the long-haired guys and gals out there who can’t wear gloss because their hair sticks to their lips, this one’s for you. This product takes the cake out of the ones that were sent and I would happily purchase more colours to experiment with.
All in all, I was happy to find a natural line of makeup that had quality products. I would definitely recommend some of Evelyn Iona Cosmetics’ products to friends and family and hope any readers looking for a natural alternative will give their line a try.
