Who loves supporting their fellow #bossbabes at an evening full of creative talent? We sure do!
Innovate-Her is an event showcasing the artistic talents and business know-how of ‘ladypreneurs’ within the creative industries.
Originating as a project for a Ryerson University course, CRI 860: The Big Night, Innovate-Her seeks to live up to the course’s name. Hope Bozzo, Sarah Civil, and Katie Wilson—all soon-to-be graduates of Ryerson’s Creative Industries program this spring—are the talented womxn behind this project.
I spoke with Civil about the event and what her team’s inspiration was. “We were passionate about womxn entrepreneurs and how they can empower a community, and knew we wanted to do something to inspire and connect more people with the same mindset,” she says.
The night will feature keynote speaker, Megan Campagnolo, founder of RoseHound Apparel—an online store that proudly sells handmade, hand-dyed, and embroidered pieces by the founder herself. Following Campagnolo’s talk, guests are invited to mingle and browse a curated selection of vendors, including the creative talents and innovations of MilkShay, August Kay, Mash Vass, Unsalted Honey, Nicole Stitches, and Sierah Grant.
“Recently we’ve actually received a lot of requests on our Instagram from creatives looking to [be featured],” Civil says, regarding Innovate-Her’s online response. “It’s really promising if we want to hold the event again in the future!”
It’s the perfect opportunity to hang out with your pals while perusing a unique selection of jewellery, prints, clothing, and so much more! Find out more information on each of the vendors by visiting Innovate-Her’s Facebook page.
Civil made sure to emphasize the importance of supporting local artisans and creatives, especially since their work is oftentimes pushed aside as a hobby. “We need to celebrate these badass babes who work hard to create cool shit and own the fact that what they create is worth some money,” she says.
Why can’t someone turn their passion or side-project into their livelihood? By encouraging creatives to pursue their passions, we can change the perception that artisan work is just arts and crafts. Not only should these talented individuals take pride in what they create, but they should be given the confidence to turn it into their own business. Which is exactly what Innovate-Her aims to do!
Even though Innovate-Her features womxn and their amazing abilities, this event is for everyone to enjoy. Buy a cool print, chat with some creative folks, maybe even get a new tattoo! Who knows, maybe you’ll walk away from the evening feeling inspired to turn your own passion into your next creative business.
Innovate-Her is set to take place tomorrow night (April 2, 2019) on Ryerson Campus from 6 PM – 9 PM. More information regarding the event is available on their Facebook page, as well as a link to tickets available online for only $5! (Make sure you select Innovate-Her at checkout!)
Make sure to come out to Innovate-Her tomorrow night and support some talented womxn. It’s sure to be a good time! #GetItGirl
